Frequently Asked Questions
How many homes have been donated so far?

So far Global Village Housing has donated over 140 homes. All have been built and gifted by their local, skilled building team for just under US$300,000.

Over 700 people now have a safe place to call home.

Homes have been delivered in 10 different provinces and one remote island.

How are the families chosen?

Many of the recipients for the houses exist on the lowest society level in already poor communities. This makes them desperate and many have no choice but to work as cheap, disposable labour.

Chhun Bann is a local monk and the Community Liaison Manager. He works very closely with the community and local leaders to ensure the most desperate and deserving families receive a home. The houses, and the conditions under which they are given, are specifically designed to foster and underpin local community values.

How long does it take to build a GVH house?

The homes a made in a small factory in Phnom Penh and are then transported like a flat pack on a truck to the villages.

The houses themselves can go up within a few hours, however the travel time from the factory to the village can be all day or night.

Does 100% of my donation go to Global Village Housing?

The Australia Cambodia Fund deduct a small percentage of your donation to cover transfers and bank fees.

What is The Australia Cambodia Foundation (ACF)?

The Australia Cambodia Foundation Inc. (ACF) supports a range of approved community partners that give food, shelter, education and health care to the people of Cambodia. Sunrise Cambodia is one of ACF’s approved partners.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes, donations of $2 and over are tax deductible in Australia.

Sunrise Cambodia is an approved partner of The Australia Cambodia Foundation (ACF), which has full Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status in Australia.

ACF is approved to give tax deductible receipts for donations to the work of Sunrise Cambodia.

Why is Cambodia such a poor nation?

During the 1960s and ’70s, while civil war raged in Cambodia, the USA carpet bombed the Cambodian countryside.

The communists won the civil war and over the next four years more than a quarter of the population was systematically murdered by its leader, Pol Pot.

The disastrous impact of this history on the gentle-natured people of Cambodia is still profound.
